Chicken incubation diary

It was a cold Monday morning and guess what? Mr Dillon brought the fertilised eggs to school. Then we put them very gently onto something for a day or two. I felt really excited to have eggs to hatch and a incubator. I thought it was a really amazing and awesome time.

A few minutes later Mr Dillon came back with a big cardboard box that said "Fragile". Then Mr Dillon started to open the box and inside was shredded paper and guess what? The eggs were inside. Then the bell rang. It was inside play so Mr Dillon decided if you want to you could help put the incubator parts together. Then a couple days later we put the eggs in the incubator. We had to mark the eggs before they went in. Unfortunately two eggs got broken,so we only had 22 eggs. Then they got put in the incubator. Then we had to wait 21 days for them to hatch. I had a funny feeling that some might crack.

We are finally able to name some chicks. I'm thinking of calling some Daffidol,Bluebell,Snowdrop,Mustard and Yellow. We all are really excited because we have a blue egg and we might get a blue chick. I am a tiny bit worried that some might not hatch.I can't wait till the day they will hatch,Monday!

Cleaning the Toko School chicken coop

Cleaning the Toko school chicken coop
Equipment / materials
-Spades/shovels
-Broom/brush
-Gloves
-Wheelbarrow/bucket
-Hay
-Sawdust
-Old clothes/overalls
-Gumboots
-Dust mask

Steps
1)The first thing you need to do is to put on some old clothes or you could wear overalls. Then you put on some gumboots and gloves. You can also choose to wear a dust mask so you don't breathe in dust and germs.

2)Next we went to the coop.We started to pick up plastic .What we picked up we could tell that it had either been thrown in or it was there from the past. What we did pickup we put it in the rubbish bin.We did this because we didn't want the chickens to get sick.

3)After that we found out that we needed to clean the poop of the ledges. What we needed to use was a wheelbarrow, shovel and also a broom and if you want some gloves. Now we will clean it off the ledges. What you do is you have your wheelbarrow under the ledge you want to clean. Then you start scraping the poop off the ledge. And if any falls on the ground you put on your gloves and pick it up or brush it into a spade/shovel and lift it into the wheelbarrow. And after that you put in the compost.

4)Then you clean the hay out of the nesting boxes. You should have gloves to prevent germs getting on you. Then you need to clean the dirty hay out.Any spider webs/mould need to be cleaned out.And you also have to clean the poop out.You also need to beware that there might be a few hidden eggs among the hay.

5)After that you need to get some shovels/spades to clean out the hay because it is dirty. So you also are going to need a old box to put the dirty hay in.Then you get a broom and brush all the dust and fine bits of hay into the old box then once the old box is full you put it into the compost to rot down.
